History

On November 7, 1994, the State Joint-Stock Railway Company «Uzbekistan Temir Yollari» was established in Uzbekistan. This event was an important step in the development of the republic's transport sector, improving rail transportation and increasing the role of railways in the country's economy. In 1997, the unitary enterprise Uzjeldorpass appeared in the company's structure, whose scope of activities included the management of interstate, intrastate and suburban passenger rail transportation.

Transformations and reforms

In 2001, as part of the state program for reforming rail transport, Uzbekistan Temir Yollari was transformed into an open joint-stock company with 100% state ownership. In 2002, Uzjeldorpass UP was transformed into Uzjeldorpass OJSC. These transformations became an important stage in the modernization of the industry, providing new opportunities for more flexible management and attracting investment.

Significant changes also took place in 2015, when the company was transformed into a joint-stock company in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the same time, Uzjeldorpass OJSC was transformed into O’ztemiryo’lyo’lovchi JSC. These steps demonstrated the country's desire to improve the quality of service and develop transport infrastructure.

Infrastructure development: new projects and achievements

One of the significant projects in the history of Uzbekistan railways was the new Tashguzar-Boysun-Kumkurgan railway line. This is the first railway line built in a mountainous area, which crosses a mountain 1800 m high. The construction of this line was an important step not only for Uzbekistan, but also for the entire Central Asian region. Long metal bridges were built for the first time, which became a new experience for the country. The technologies used in the construction were borrowed from Japanese companies with many years of experience in the field of railway construction.

The commissioning of this line contributed to the improvement of transport links between the Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, which had a positive impact on the economy of the region and the development of industries.

International projects and cooperation

Uzbekistan is actively developing international transport links. In June 2003, an agreement was signed to establish the Trans-Afghan Transport Corridor between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iran. This agreement was an important step in improving transport links between Central Asia and South Asia.

The first project of Uzbekistan Railways outside Uzbekistan was the Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway project in Afghanistan. This project was completed in 2010 and became an important milestone in the development of railway cooperation in the region.

High-speed trains: a step into the future

One of the significant steps in the modernization of rail transport was the introduction of the high-speed train "Afrosiyob", launched in 2011 on the Tashkent-Samarkand-Tashkent route. The train was purchased as part of cooperation with the Spanish company Talgo, and its launch marked the beginning of the era of high-speed travel in Uzbekistan.

The high-speed transportation project has significantly improved the quality of transport services, accelerated travel between the largest cities of the country and has become a symbol of the modernization of the railway industry.

Conclusion

The railway industry of Uzbekistan has come a long way, starting with the establishment of "Uzbekistan Temir Yollari" in 1994 and up to today's achievements. The company continues to introduce new technologies, develop international relations and modernize infrastructure, which has a positive impact on the country's economy and its integration into the global transport market. Today, Uzbekistan is not only strengthening its internal transport links, but is also becoming an important player in the international arena, developing transport corridors that connect Central Asian countries with other regions of the world.
